Project description
Cross for ITS (X4ITS) brings together public authorities, cities, public transport operators, the railway supply industry, road operators, and traffic information providers from Eastern and Central European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, and Slovenia). As a continuation of the previously implemented Crocodile projects, X4ITS focuses on maintaining the achievements established through those projects, as well as opening new areas of activity.
EU Member States are working together to improve cross-border traffic through the implementation of harmonized and synchronized ITS systems and applications along significant road corridors, as well as the implementation and use of C-ITS systems based on specifications proposed through the EU C-Roads project in urban areas connected to high-priority roads (motorways and state roads).
The implementation of the X4ITS project is oriented towards expanding the capabilities for collecting traffic and travel data, processing data, and accessing data, along with deploying equipment that will enable the availability and processing of such data. This will support the harmonization of traffic flows and ensure connectivity with the National Access Point (www.promet-info.hr), especially in relation to state roads as well as multimodal and/or urban interchanges.
In Eastern Europe, in smaller countries with diverse languages and high transit traffic, traffic information exchange is essential. Therefore, partners in the X4ITS project are committed to establishing a system that will make traffic information available along the entire corridor, thereby enabling the quality development of end-user traffic information systems.
Additionally, the establishment of cross-border cooperation and information exchange will improve common procedures and harmonized impact assessment methods. Emphasis will be placed on the impact of X4ITS on the environment and safety, as well as its contribution to key priorities within the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, decarbonization, and digitization of the transport sector, including achieving the goals of the Vision Zero initiative and reducing traffic accidents.
Hrvatske ceste d.o.o., through the implementation of this project via the National Access Point, plans to make available information on waiting times at a minimum of 15 border crossings with non-EU countries and to upgrade the management and user information system for state roads in the approach zone to the City of Šibenik.
