One of the main strategic goals of Hrvatske ceste d.o.o. is to provide users with safe traffic on the state road network.
For this purpose, we continuously carry out activities through programmes of maintenance (regular, periodic or investment), design and construction of new roads, and undertake a series of retroactive and proactive measures.
Hrvatske ceste d.o.o. also participate in the National Road Traffic Safety Plan, which is aligned with global and European guidelines in the field of road traffic safety, and whose goal is to reduce fatalities and serious injuries to road users by 50%.
Retroactive measures are based on historical data, i.e. traffic accidents and their consequences that occurred in the past period, while proactive measures are used to additionally increase the level of safety of all road users, regardless of traffic accidents:
- identification and ranking of potentially dangerous places on the state road network and inspection and analysis of locations in order to determine dangerous places
- rehabilitation of dangerous places
- measures to increase the safety of motorcyclists
- safety assessment of sections with a large number of traffic accidents (Network Safety Management - NSM)
- review and analysis of locations with fatalities on the state road network.
Proactive measures are implemented as part of the following activities:
- road safety audit
- implementation of the EuroRAP program
- implementation of the ITS system
- new guidelines in the design, construction and maintenance of roads pilot projects.
In order to prevent state roads from unauthorized loads, Hrvatske ceste d.o.o. organize and implement:
- measuring and data processing the total mass and axle loads of vehicles on state roads with the use of WIM – stationary devices and SiWIM mobile devices
- controlling axle load, total mass and dimensions of vehicles on the roads of the Republic of Croatia
- measuring total mass, axle loads and dimensions of announced exceptional load transport at the request of the carrier or exceptional load transport permit provider.
